There are 274 collectible locations in total, and the game has no in-game checklist. The Onimusha Way of the Sword secrets are mostly hidden behind Oni abilities rather than behind skill, so a full sweep means coming back with the right powers equipped.

Mysteries of Kyoto
Eight investigation cases tracked in the Curious Cases menu as Observations, marked on the map with a butterfly icon. They unlock after the mission "What Lurks in the Shadows", and availability is staggered:
| Mystery | Where | Available |
|---|---|---|
The Light of Vengeance | Kiyomizu-dera | As soon as the category unlocks |
The Blessed Man | Eastern Kyoto | As soon as the category unlocks |
A Wife's Prayer | Kiyomizu-dera | After "Bloodbath on the Bridge" |
Something in the Water | Kiyomizu-dera | After "A Tempest at the Temple" |
The Night Parade | Eastern Kyoto | After "The Demon on the Mount" |
Hanging Monkeys | Eastern Kyoto | After "The Demon on the Mount" |
The Faceless | Eastern Kyoto | After "Okuni's Kabuki Dance" |
The Three Worms | Eastern Kyoto | After "Okuni's Kabuki Dance" |
Rewards include charms, Fine Silk Cloth and Power Stones. Clearing all eight is easiest after "The Demon on the Mount", once every one is available.
Chance Encounters
Eighteen side requests marked with a notebook icon on the map; speak to the NPC to start. They fall into three types:
Five Ace Archer challenges
— bow-accuracy hunts in Kiyomizu-dera Temple, Nijo-jo Castle, Kyoto Imperial Palace, Mount Oe and Arashiyama, hunting Kubi Akari.
Five Hidden Treasure hunts
— clue-based dig sites, Hidden Treasure No. 1 to No. 5, started from an Old Drawing and located with Oni Vision. No. 5 holds a Skeleton Hozuki needed for the Medical Marvel trophy and is the most commonly missed one.
Eight story requests
, which start appearing around "The Curse of Kiyomizu-zaka Slope" as areas are cleansed.
What each category is actually for
Collecting all 274 is only worth planning if the sweep tells you something. Power Stones and Oni Stones are the skill currencies, and one playthrough yields 54 of each — enough to max the Basic tree and not enough for the Special tree, which is why the stones are worth spending rather than hoarding.
The rest feed specific systems: the 36 Lion Dogs gate sword appearances, the 23 Genma Notes open lore entries, the 15 charms each upgrade to level 3, the nine Hozuki Pouch pickups raise capacity, and the seven Oni Armaments are the weapon options themselves. That means a partial sweep has to be aimed — 36 dogs for cosmetics, 54 stones for combat, the rest spread across the systems they belong to.
The deadline that matters
Free-roam collectible gathering ends at the point of no return, the final mission "The Clash at Rendaino", so collect everything before that mission. Nothing is permanently missable: after the finale, choosing "Continue" from the main menu returns you to the area just before it.
Timing matters for the two runs, too:
- Reset in New Game+ — Mysteries of Kyoto and Chance Encounters, along with the Oni Armaments and the Oni Bow. Finish all 26 side requests on your first playthrough.
- Carry into New Game+ — charms and their upgrades, Hozuki Pouches, Genma Notes, Lion Dog records, skills and Boss Rematch unlocks.
Full completion realistically takes around 60 to 70 hours over at least two playthroughs.
Everything else is on the pages it belongs to: the 15 charms and their level 3 upgrades on the charm list, the twelve sword appearances on the weapons guide, the optional Byakue fight on the boss guide, and the mission order that gates all of it on the walkthrough.
